Congress activists and followers of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday night went on a rampage across Andhra Pradesh targeting the showrooms, offices and other properties of the Ambani brothers.
A number of Reliance Retail outlets in the state came under mob attack after section of the media alleged the role of the Ambani brothers in the sudden death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash in September.
The incident occurred after 7 pm when a local television channel started airing that a Russian website, exiledonline.com, had speculated that there could be a conspiracy behind Reddy’s death, as he had stressed that the gas find by RIL in the Krishna-Godavari basin was a national asset and the Ambani brothers, including their mother Kokilaben, had no right to distribute it between them.
The Anil Ambani-led Reliance group said: “A malicious and criminal misinformation campaign has been employed into by our corporate rivals leading to significant loss and harm to our several offices and businesses of Reliance ADA Group in Andhra Pradesh yesterday evening.
“We are shocked to see our corporate rivals stooping down to new levels of desperation by engaging in such imaginative and baseless rumour-mongering.”
According to a senior police official, a case has been registered suo-moto against the Telugu news channel TV5.
